Transistor for Transportation/Communication Industry
Recently, a client from the communications industry contacted Andrew Technologies, Inc. after having difficulties with their original transistor products. Our customer had a concern with an SOT-223 part used on a particular assembly that appeared to not be getting enough solder under the GND pad, and wanted Andrew Technologies to come up with a solution to this problem.
After we finished discussions about this product - its requirements and the purpose of the unit in their design - we were able to determine that the solder was being wicked away from the part's lead by the exposed ground plane. In order to solve this problem, we suggested using a different solder mask pattern that would help retain the solder to the specific area. Working closely with our client, Andrew Technologies was able to come up with a workable solution to our customer's part soldering problem - a solution that is still in use to this day!
